As we are closing on the first nine weeks of school, tests loom closer and closer. Being that most people our age have difficulty avoiding it, procrastination is running rampant throughout our school. In an effort to help everyone become better prepared for the academic stress coming up, we’ve compiled some tried and true study tips.
Firstly, try to avoid last minute cramming as much as possible. Tempting as it may be, overloading your brain with tons of information before a test is a very bad way to learn any of it. Instead, space out your study sessions so that you are preparing for the test a little bit everyday.
Make flashcards. By creating vocabulary flashcards, you are already reviewing important concepts that you will use in class. By knowing the words you have to work with, you can be better prepared to analyze how they fit together in the subject you’re studying.
Find a quiet place to study. Being in a space with a lot of distractions will most certainly hinder your study process. Some good places to try out would be a local library or coffee shop, or even your room if you minimize the amount of things that could potentially distract you (like a phone or TV.)
Get a good night’s sleep! It’s something that as students we get told time and again, but a good rest can really go a long way in helping retain information and staying focused when you’re learning it.
Make a study playlist. Good options for music to study to are songs in other languages, video game soundtracks, or soothing classical music.
All in all, the best way to make sure you stay on top of your grades is to study. Don’t hesitate to ask your teachers or peers for help if you need it, and just do your best. You got this!
