On Friday, the Regional History Fair Competition took place at the Aldine Education Center. Numerous students from Carver competed and placed. Of the twenty one students who competed, eight of them are moving on to the Texas History Day Competition at Austin in April.
The History Fair competition is a year long cumulative program for 6-12th grade students that starts at the district level and ends in the National History Day competition. Students chose to compete in one category: website, documentaries, exhibit, performance, and historical paper. They can compete individually or in a group up to five people. Students chose a topic to research in relation to the theme- this year’s was Triumph and Tragedy- and explain its historical significance and impact on history. It’s a great way for students to learn critical thinking, problem solving skills, research and reading skills, and gain self esteem and confidence.
Lillian Nicholas, one of the students who advanced with her group says, “We worked hard, wished for the best, and it happened. We’re excited to do more research and advance to nationals.” This determination is seen in all the students that advanced.
Below are the students who advanced.
