Over the weekend, Carver’s visual arts student competed at the annual Visual Arts Scholastic Event, or VASE. It is an art competition that recognizes exemplary art students and their achievements. Students are judged based on the artwork itself, the creation process, and the artist intent. The highest rating an art piece can receive is a four. Ten percent of the art pieces with a four rating will move on to the state competition.

This year, thirty-eight students competed at the Regional VASE competition. Some students took many art pieces to compete with. Of the 54 pieces that went to the competition, thirty-eight received the highest rating, and twelve received the second highest rating, a three. Daphne Lopez, Sherall Garcia, and Laeticia Guenoun advanced to the state competition, which will be held on April 26 and 27 in San Marcos, Texas.
