Aldine ISD students did a hit performance at the annual Aldine Convocation ceremony this August.

The show was a collaboration between choir, dance, music, and theatre students all around Aldine from many grade levels, and celebrated the rich cultural diversity the Aldine community encounters everyday with a presentation exemplifying representation, including elements from Asia and Latin America. Outstanding performing arts teachers from several schools in Aldine helped make the production possible; Ms. Roshunda Jones and Mr. Jabari Collins from Carver Magnet HS directed the theatre portion, along with Ms. Sarita Salinas who coordinated all of the dance elements with Aldine Dance Company and Carver Dance Company. Daryle Freeman from Davis HS, Megan Truelson from Plummer HS, and Melissa Dightman from Nimitz HS directed the Aldine choir who performed throughout the production. Courtnay Holiday from Drew Academy was the piano accompaniment, and the band was coordinated by the amazing band director from MacArthur HS.

Held at the M.O. Campbell Center, the Convocation ceremony was presented in 2 shows; the first was for all of the educators in Aldine, and the second was for campus support staff from all around the district. Keynote speakers Ron Clark and State Rep. Armando Walle made an appearance, and spoke to both audiences to inspire them for the upcoming school year.

New Superintendent, Dr. LaTonya Goffney and Dr. Selina Chapa directed the ceremony, and had a chance to really interact with Aldine staff, and get them excited for the year ahead. Dr. Goffney spoke of her journey through school to emphasize the importance that educators have on the lives of students, describing the poverty she endured as a child and how education helped her overcome that challenge and become successful in her career.

The Aldine 2018 Convocation was a success, and helped show that everyone- teachers, administration, staff, and everyone in between- are All in for Aldine!
